** Charity Contributions**

On 23rd May 2011, Linlithgow Thistle donated a set of strips to The Douglas Lodge, Bo'ness.  The previously worn strip (Edinburgh West Championship winning away kit) and a Mitre match ball was donated to the Masonic Lodge for the excellent work of Bro. Paul Railton, who is travelling to India next month.  Along with other very kind organisations and individuals, Linlithgow Thistle strips will be given to the very poor children who love playing football but are unable to afford the luxuries that we all take for granted on a daily basis.  To further their love for the game, a team's identity is important and Thistle more than welcome the opportunity to help the children in India.

Linlithgow Thistle participated in the David Clayden Memorial Fund 2011 Five-a-side 24-hour Tournament on Friday, 20th May at Broxburn Sports Centre.  The Linlithgow club's donation of £200 will be going to Help for Heroes and Scottish Cervical Cancer Support Group.  Derek Oliver, Secretary, said "We are very proud and keen to help charities such as Help for Heroes and Scottish Cervical Cancer Support Group.  We are honoured to participate in this tournament for such worthwhile causes and respect the hosts for the task that they undertook.  We seek to ensure that our level of charitable support continues into the future in order that the very worthwhile work of organisations such as these is maintained.  We are very proud to be associated with all the charities that we have supported over this season."

Newtongrange Star A 3 v 0 Linlithgow Thistle

28th May 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Abbeylands

Thistle concluded their season with defeat to a very polished Star performance.

Having conceded half way through the first half of a wind swept Abbeylands, Thistle were never really threatening towards their opponent's goal.  However at only one goal down at half-time, and with last week's result still fresh in the memory, the Linlithgow side were not disheartened.

Unfortunately, any possibility of a comeback was killed off after 55 minutes when a free header by the Star defender at a corner kick doubled the host's advantage.  Substitutions were made to ignite the reshuffled Thistle attacking formation but to no avail.  Star's third goal followed a defensive mistake on 80 minutes and the game was comfortably ended by the home team.

With Bridgend the subject of a defeat to Edinburgh South Vics, which sees Vics crowned Champions, Thistle are at least safe in the Premier 2 Division for next season.  Sources indicate that Linlithgow's rivals may still avoid relegation if voting is favourable at the LEAFA AGM next Saturday.  Everyone at Thistle hopes this is the case so that the local derby can be replayed over the course of next season.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Thistle held their Annual General Meeting at The Black Bitch on 28th May.  A very positive and constructive forum with players was included which will see on-field improvements to match the off-field developments.

Next Fixture: Premier 2

Newtongrange Star A v Linlithgow Thistle

28th May 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Abbeylands

Thistle travel to the capital to face Star in a repeat of last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Kettil'stoun.  The Linlithgow side will be looking to finish the season on a positive note on which to build their foundation for next season.

Linlithgow Thistle 1 v 1 Newtongrange Star A

21st May 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Scorers: McCredie

Thistle again had to battle from behind to earn a draw against a very dogged Star side.  The visitors have been flying of late and are looking forward to the Logan Cup Final on 4th June which made this a notable result.

The display was rather edgy for around 60 minutes of this game from the Linlithgow side, that can only be attributed to the pressure of relegation facing their club.  An arguable header in terms of offside put the visitors in front going into half-time.  However, following McCredie's slick equaliser on the hour, Thistle were on top and relentlessly battered the Star goal.  Only a fine performance from the Newtongrange goalkeeper prevented Thistle taking all 3 points.

The reverse fixture is to be played next Saturday which draws Thistle's season to a conclusion.  With an appointment with the Executive Committee of the League Association on Thursday evening, the result of the final game is either irrelevant or crucial in Thistle's plight to remain in the Premier 2 Division.  The unfortunate outcome come 4pm next Saturday is either Linlithgow Thistle or rivals Bridgend United will be relegated to the lower leagues.

Next Fixture: Premier 2

Linlithgow Thistle v Newtongrange Star A

21st May 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Thistle welcome Star to Kettil'stoun on Saturday.  The visitors, although not competing for the league title, have made impressive progress in cup competitions this season.  This is the first of a double header with Star and it will be important for the Linlithgiw side to obtain points over these games to ensure their safety.

Latest Result: Premier 2

Linlithgow Thistle 1 v 2 Sandys

16th May 2011, Kick Off - 6.45pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Scorers: McCredie

Thistle suffered a disappointing result in their only midweek fixture of the season.

Sandys started the game the brighter with the league title their aim, which they can secure if they win on Saturday and other results go there way (Bridgend Utd beating Edinburgh South Vics).  Unfortunately for Thistle, the visitors' desire was greater and they capitalised on two poor defensive mistakes to enter the break 2 goals to no reply.

However, after 60 minutes, Thistle began to dominate proceedings.  McCredie finished superbly to give the home support some hope for the remainder of the game.  The equaliser never came despite some good play and the game was brought to a close.

Thistle's play in the second half was much better than the first period and they will require this passion to again be realised over the next two games to ensure their Premier 2 survival.

Next Fixture: Premier 2

Linlithgow Thistle v Sandys

16th May 2011, Kick Off - 6.30pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Thistle welcome league title challengers, and expected winners, Sandys to Kettil'stoun on Monday 16th May.  With the Linlithgow side triumphant in the reverse fixture (1-0) earlier in the season, they will be looking to their recent performances to give their league survival a further boost in the hope of replicating the result.

Latest Result: Premier 2

Lochend 1 v 4 Linlithgow Thistle

7th May 2011, Kick Off - 2.15pm

Seafield

Scorers: McCredie (2), Orr (2)

Thistle turned in another massive performance following on from last week's victory.  With pure heart, the Linlithgow players were disciplined and dogged in their play.

Despite going behing through an early Lochend goal, Thistle were solid in formation.  Excellent posession, passing and counter-attacking saw the Linlithgow side net their quadruple.  McCredie and Orr were inspired from the first to the last whistle, with each bagging an impressive brace.  However this was a collective performance and each and every Linlithgow Thistle player on the park, and those encouraging from the sidelines, were a credit to the team and to amateur football.

This was the Thistle that we remember from the previous two seasons.   With only three league games remaining, should this performance be repeated, the Linlithgow side will be plying their trade in Premier 2 again next season.

BREAKING NEWS
  ** BROUGHTON EJECTED **

With the League Association having now confirmed that Broughton AFC have been ejected from Premier 2, Linlithgow Thistle have been sucked into a precarious position in the league.

With a fantastic victory against Broughton beng deducted from Thistle's points tally, instead of looking towards promotion, the Linlithgow boys will now have to consider a relegation battle.  Only victories in the next few games will stave off this concern for the West Lothian club in what is proving a very close league.

Current League Positions:

Next Fixture: Premier 2

Lochend v Linlithgow Thistle

7th May 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Seafield

Thistle travel to the capital to take on Lochend.  The Linlithgow side will be looking to better the reverse fixture of 16th April, where they were narrowly beaten 4-3 at home.  With the threat of relegation still hanging over Thistle, the management team will be looking for the performance against Heriot Vale to be repeated.

Latest Result: Premier 2

Linlithgow Thistle 4 v 3 Heriot Vale

30th April 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Scorers: Whyte, A. Morrison, Orr (2)

Thistle turned in an almighty performance when it mattered by punishing Heriot Vale and, in doing so, pulled the Edinburgh side back into the league's relegation battle.  The Linlithgow team were dominant from the first whistle, powering to a three goal advantage by the half hour mark, with impressive goals from Whyte, Andrew Morrison and Orr.

However, by half time, Vale were gifted a soft penalty.  The kick, although well saved by Bruce, saw the rebound fall to the striker, who bundled the ball over the line with the keeper stranded.   Vale further capitalised on a defensive mix-up to cut into Thistle's lead with only a minute left on the clock.  The whistle came at an ideal time for Linlithow's finest to regroup and plan their second half assault.

The second period started again with Thistle in impressive form, eventually rewarded with Orr's powerful header after 70 minutes.  Despite another error to allow Vale some hope in the dying minutes, Thistle saw out the game in comfortable fashion.

This result was of massive importance to Thistle and if the performance and result can be repeated in the next few weeks, the Linlithgow club will stave off the threat of relegation from Premier 2.

Linlithgow Thistle 3 v 4 Lochend

16th April 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Scorers: Orr (2), G. Deans

No match report available (Secretary not at match).

Thistle came from 2 goals down to take control of the match 3-2.  Unfortunately, due to slack play and reduction in men (red card), the lead was capitulated and Thistle lost the match 4-2.

Linlithgow Thistle v Lochend

16th April 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Thistle entertain Premier 2 veterans Lochend to Kettil'stoun Mains Park.  The Linlithgow side will require 3 points from their fellow league strugglers if a relegation dogfight is to be avoided.

Latest Result: Cairns Cup (1st Round)

Sandys 4 v 3 Linlithgow Thistle

9th April 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Castleview Centre

Scorers: McCredie, Orr (2)

Despite leaving the capital defeated in the League Cup, Thistle's collective performance, and that of individuals, was to attract praise.

McCredie opened the scoring on 5 minutes after intelligently intercepting a back pass from the Sandy's defender and rounding the keeper to finish with composure.

However, during strong play for 15 minutes by the hosts, a brace was netted in a matter of minutes.  Thistle responded well and tried to get back into the game.  The half-time whistle interrupted some good possessional play by the visitors.

Following the restart, Sandy's increased their lead in surprising style.  A returned ball, supposed to be played out at the bye-line following a break in play, was mistakenly put into Thistle's net.  With credit and respect to Sandy's, they permitted Thistle to score from the kick-off, with Orr netting from the half-way line.

Sandy's eventually did increase their lead with the sun affecting Bruce's vision in the goal.  The Linlithgow side rallied and following some great interplay, were awarded with a penalty after Heeps was impeded.  The Sandy's defender was dismissed and Orr confidently converted.  Despite good possession, Thistle were unable to capitalise on the player number advantage and the match was brought to an end.

Next Fixture: Cairns Cup (1st Round)

Sandys v Linlithgow Thistle

9th April 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Castleview Centre

With the game against Broughton, scheduled for Monday 4th April, being cancelled, Thistle's next game is against Sandy's in the First Round of the League Cup, the Cairns Cup.  With this being Thistle's last opportunity for silverware for this season, the Linlithgow side will be taking this competition seriously in an attempt to ensure something is displayed in the cabinet come the end of the season.  Sandy's will no doubt continue to provide a stern test for Thistle.

Latest Result: Premier 2

Linlithgow Thistle 2 v 2 Edinburgh South Vics

2nd April 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Scorers: Whyte (2)

Thistle made a massive dent on Vics' title challenge with a dogged display at Kettil'stoun.  With deadline day signings on the field and on the bench, Thistle started the game in an attacking formation, with depth in squad.  It was to pay dividends come the end of the match, which was a real spectacle for amateur football.

New signing McCredie almost scored on his debut with a header that crashed the crossbar after only 5 minutes but it was the experienced Whyte that eventually stole the headlines.  The attacking wingers and front line of Heeps, McCredie, Miller, Orr and Whyte caused Vics several headaches throughout this match.  With vociferous support from the Thistle spectators, the Linlithgow side came from behind twice to produce a well earned draw.

After going behind after 30 minutes to an impressive Vics goal, Thistle found themselves 1-0 down at half-time.  Into the second half, Whyte rose well on 50 minutes to meet a corner with a smashing header.  With Thistle on the ascendancy, the Edinburgh side shortly after regained the lead following good counter-attacking.

With around 15 mnutes remaining, the Vics midfielder was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.  Whyte took control of the penalty kick but saw his forceful shot well saved by the keeper, who celebrated to the annoyance of the Thistle fans.  With seconds remaining however, it was Thistle who had the last laugh.  A corner from the left was again met well by Whyte that saw the ball squeeze past the packed Vics goal line.

The game was concluded shortly after the restart.

With two headers and a missed penalty, the greying veteran Whyte demonstrated that there's life still in the old dog.

Next Fixture: Premier 2

Linlithgow Thistle v Edinburgh South Vics

2nd April 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Following another Association allocated free week, Thistle entertain South Vics at Kettil'stoun Mains.  The young, fit and lethal visitors will be looking to make it a hat-trick of results against Thistle following their impressive victories in the league and Miller Cup earlier this season.

Fixtures for week commencing 4th April have also been released.  On Monday, 4th April, Thistle will travel to face old adversaries Broughton in a tough Premier 2 fixture.

Latest Result: Premier 2

The Spartans 2 v 0 Linlithgow Thistle

19th March 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Ainslie Park

Thistle left the capital on the end of a defeat that effectively ends their title challenge.  After starting the brighter, the Linlithgow side went behind after 15mins when The Spartans converted a quickly taken free-kick.  Despite objections being raised with the referee over the ball placement and movement, the goal was permitted to stand.  From then until the half-time whistle, the Edinburgh side were in dominant form.  Good goalkeeping and defending by Thistle prevented The Spartans adding to their lead before the whistle.

However, a rousing team talk appeared to rally Thistle, who responded with increased possession and a few good chances.  Against the run of play, on 75 minutes, The Spartans managed to add to their lead when a ball to the front post from the left wing was converted well by on the on running striker.  From then, the Edinburgh side's impressive fitness told upon the Thistle players.  With only a couple of squandered opportunities towards the end to write home about, the Linlithgow boys were unable to convert before the final whistle was blown.

Latest Result: Challenge Cup (1st Round)

Linlithgow Thistle 0 v 1 Whitson Star (aet)

5th March 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Thistle were grossly unlucky not to emerge from this tie with victory.  Having taken the game to Premier 1 title contenders Star, it required an extra time winner by the Edinburgh outfit to eventually kill off a dogged and determined Linlithgow side.

The game was played out in stereotypical cup tie fashion: chances arising at both ends of the park with a generous helping of firm tackles.

Thistle should have been awarded a penalty late in the first half when Whyte burst through the defence and was cynically brought to the ground by the out-rushing keeper.  The referee appeared to be the only person at Kettil’stoun who did not believe it to be a foul.

During the first half of extra-time came a fortuitous opportunity for the visitors.  The ball broke from a scramble in the six yard box, with the Star midfielder blasting home through the crowd.

After another golden opportunity late in the game, Thistle were unfortunate not to equalise to bring the encounter to penalties.  The Linlithgow side will be disappointed with the outcome but can be buoyed by their performance against a team battling for Premier League glory.

Latest Result: Premier 2

 Tynecastle Star 1 v 5 Linlithgow Thistle

26th February 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Peffermill, Edinburgh

Scorers: Miller (3), K Morrison, Trialist.

Thistle produced a sterling display against a battling Star side.  With only 5 minutes on the clock, Miller fired the ball home from an Orr lay-off, after a fine attack by Stevenson.  This goal set the tempo for Thistle's game.  Following wave after wave of attacks, the Linlithgow team were eventually rewarded after 30 minutes when K. Morrison coolly dispatched the ball beyond the keeper, striking the inside of the far post on the way.

Star were presented with an opportunity to respond just prior to half-time, when loose defending saw the ball break 12 yards from goal.  Star's attacker twisted and turned and was poised to strike, when an ill-timed tackle saw the referee point to the spot.  The resultant strike was blasted wide.

Just after the restart, complacency was at the heart of Star's reply when the ball was blasted beyond Thistle's keeper from the edge of the box.  However, the Edinburgh side were unable to capitalise on their good fortune.  Thistle came back stronger and were soon stretching their lead.  Stevenson fired in a cracking freekick to the far post and Miller was ready to deflect the ball beyond the out-stretched limbs of the keeper.

Miller completed his emphatic performance with a hat-trick.  Following another impressive inter-change between Thistle's defenders, midfielders and attackers, Miller was on-hand to dispatch past the keeper with a fine strike.

Linlithgow's fine exhibition was completed when Trialist shimmied at the edge of the box and curled the ball into the top corner.

Thistle's squad and management will be looking to build on this impressive performance and reassert their assault on the league.

Next Fixture: Premier 2

Tynecastle Star  v Linlithgow Thistle

26th February 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Thistle travel to the capital to face Star, who currently sit second bottom of the league, in a Premier 2 fixture.  The Tynecastle side have faced a lengthy lay off from competitive football due to the inclement weather affecting piches in Edinburgh.  As a consequence, Thistle will have to be mindful of a rejuvenated Star squad if they are to replicate the 5-2 victory as enjoyed in September.

Latest Result: Premier 2

 Bridgend Utd  3 v 1 Linlithgow Thistle

12th February 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Bathgate 3G

Thistle were left with the huge disappointment of having the "double" inflicted by their closest rivals.  Bridgend, who triumphed 2-0 at the reverse fixture in August, entered this game full of confidence having defeated title contenders, Lochend, two weeks earlier.

Despite the Linlithgow side having had a lengther lay-off from competitive football than their hosts, the game started in typical frenetic derby fashion.  The game was played at a high tempo with it's share of firm, sometimes late, challenges.  It was a good advert for amateur football.

Against the run of play, with approx. 15 mins of the first half remaining, Bridgend broke the deadlock.  A cross from the right was met by the head of the on-rushing attacker.  Although hints and shouts of off-side, the referee allowed the goal to stand.  Thistle responded well.  With 43 mins on the clock, a Stevenson free-kick was delivered to the front post.  With Orr rising, the ball skimmed his hair and was met by the defender, to inadvertently deflect the ball into the top corner.  An even first half was concluded at 1-1.

Into the second half, the game restarted in the same aggressive form.  After 8 mins, a free-kick was awarded to United in a similar position to Stevenson's on the right wing.  The ball was drilled at the keeper, who appeared to be impeded by the onrushing Bridgend players.  The goal stood.

Thistle mounted waves of attack, as well as defending well at United counter-attacks.  Eventually, after 60 minutes, an opportunity arose.  Miller and Orr combined well, with the latter squaring to Maxwell 12 yards from goal, with only the keeper to beat.  The out running goalie managed to get a good hand to the placed shot and turn it behind for a corner kick.  With this opportunity lost, Bridgend took advantage.

Fitness began to tell in itself, with Thistle players showing signs of fatigue at this stage of the contest.  Another free-kick was awarded to United on the left wing with around 15 mins remaining.  In almost mirrored circumstances to United's second goal, the ball was drilled at the keeper, who again appeared impeded.  Goal again stood.  United finished the match in dominant form, with Thistle mounting only a late attack.

The match was played out with a number of bookings but was handled well by the referee.  United were worthy winners over both fixtures.  Thistle will need to take the double defeat on the chin and train hard to regain their fitness if a promotion challenge is to be sustained.

Bridgend Utd v Linlithgow Thistle

8th January 2011, Kick Off - 2pm

Thistle travel along the road to face fierce rivals, Bridgend, in the second meeting of the season.  The Linlithgow side will be looking to produce a better result than that at the start of the season, which saw United triumph 2-0, with Thistle reduced to 9 men.  With the recent weather, the game actually being played is doubtful but what is not in any doubt is the passion that will be on display come Saturday if the referee starts the game.  Huge local bragging rights are at stake as the likelihood of these teams meeting again this season is very slim.

Linlithgow Thistle Card Night

To break the monotony of the Festive holiday and to provide a team building opportunity, the club held their first card event on 27th December at The Black Bitch.  Texas Hold'em Poker and Black Jack games were simultaneously played, purely "for the banter"!

The club would like to express their gratitude to the staff of The Black Bitch for their tolerance!

Linlithgow Thistle 1 v 3 Bluebell Ams

20th November 2010, Kick Off - 1.30pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Thiste started the game in commanding form against the current holders of the East of Scotland Cup.  Unfortunately, the Linlithgow side were unable to convert any of the three gilt edged first half chances that could have paid dividends in the end result.

The Falkirk side capitalised on two defensive blunders to finish the first half two goals to no reply.  The Bluebell forward was in scintillating form as he pounced on weak play and finish with precision.

The second half saw Thistle raise their game again but to no avail.  A freekick awarded on the edge of the box halfway through the half was curled around the wall and into the top corner by the Bluebell midfielder.

Thistle were awarded a penalty with around fifteen minutes of the match remaining after the defender was adjudjged to have handled the ball in the penalty area.  Meikle despatched the ball, sending the 'keeper in the wrong direction.

It was a fair game played in good spirit.  Thistle wish Bluebell the very best in their Cup run and for the remainder of their season.

Thistle return to league action next week where they will be eager to halt the recent poor run of cup defeats.

Edinburgh South Vics 5 v 0 Linlithgow Thistle

13th November 2010, Kick Off - 3pm

Saughton 3G

The curse of Saughton 3G again struck a woeful Thistle side

Having started the game in commanding form, the Linlithgow side were reduced to ten men after 15 minutes.  An instictive "save" on the line saw the defender dismissed and Vics go one ahead with a fine penalty strike.  The impetus from this goal then saw Vics relentlessly barrage the Linlithgow goal with shots from all angles.  With extra personnel, it was inevitable that the Edinburgh side would strike another.

It was at this point that the management team took the decision to change formation and invoke two substitutions.  With confusion setting into the team, Thistle found themselves four behind at half-time.

The second half performance was much improved by Thistle.  A number of attacks, although ultimately not troubling the Vic's goalkeeper to any great effect, did invoke a sense of pride amongst the Linlithgow men.  A great solo effort by the Vic's central midfielder wrapped up the tie a little over half-way through the half.

The Thistle changing room reverberated as the management team berated the team in draconian fashion.  The success of this verbal punishment will only be evidenced come Saturday, in the second round of the East of Scotland Cup..

Linlithgow Thistle 3 v 3 The Spartans

6th November 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Thistle were held by The Spartans in an entertaining contest at Kettil'stoun.

Having started in brighter fashion, The Spartans were rewarded when they capitalised on a defensive blunder early in the game.  Thistle were struggling to make any impact in the opposing half until Blackwood flighted a cracking freekick into the box, for O'Neill to rise and power his header over the keeper's reach from 16 yards.  Thistle then took charge of the fixture through to the half-time whistle.

From the restart, Thistle were again in command.  After 5 minutes, the Linlithgow side took the lead courtesy of a well worked goal, stylishly poked home by Stevenson.

The Spartans then clawed a goal back and then immediately proceeded to dominate the game.  With around 25 minutes remaining, The Spartans captain was dismissed for a second bookable offence.  As opposed to Thistle taking advantage of extra personnel, The Spartans managed to bundle the ball beyond Whitelaw after some poor defending.

Having gone behind however, Thistle kept pressing, seeking the equaliser.

Deep into injury time, Thistle were rewarded for their sustained efforts.  Maxwell's shot from distance managed to trundle past the keeper in comical fashion.

Fernieside 2 v 2 Linlithgow Thistle

30th October 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Peffermill, Edinburgh

Thistle travelled to Peffermill seeking revenge for last Saturday's defeat to the same opposition.

From the first whistle, Thistle dominated the first half demonstrating some slick interplay.  After only ten minutes, the Linlithgow side bagged the opener.  O'Neill, Wardrope and A Deans exchanged excellent passing before the latter blasted beyond the on-rushing keeper from around 16 yards.

Carving the defence open on several occasions, the Linlithgow side were then to strike the post from a superb O'Neill headed effort and crack many efforts both on and off target.  These efforts were later to prove costly.

From the start of the second half, it was clear that the old adage of "a game of two halves" would suit no game better than this contest.  Fernieside were to take charge of this game.  As the ball broke from a corner, the central midfielder smashed a great effort into the Thistle net from around 25 yards.

Following a rash second bookable offence by the Linlithgow captain, the Thistle management team reorganised the formation.  Shortly thereafter, Fernieside took the lead.  With a neat cross from the left, the Edinburgh side capitalised on poor defending and slammed the ball into the net.

The Fernieside attacks became relentless as they sought to kill off Thistle.  However, with five minutes remaining, a superb counter attack, with A Deans playing Oliver into the box, saw the midfielder crossing along the six-yard box for the on-fire Maxwell to blast home.

Although disappointed with the lack of goals following sustained attacking in the first half by Thistle, Fernieside were clearly the dominant team in the second, particularly against Linlithgow's ten men.  In summary, a draw was a fair result.

Linlithgow Thistle 2 v 3 Fernieside

23rd October 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettil'stoun Mains Park

Thistle were disappointed to end this fixture with no points, having dominated long periods of the game.

Having started brightly with a make-shift team, due to many absentees, Thistle failed to breach the the Gilmerton team's goal line.  Chances and near misses, including a Stevenson freekick clipping the bar, proved wasteful as Fernieside prodded a goal minutes before half-time.

With a change in formation planned at half-time, Thistle started brightly, with a surging attack producing a fine save from the Edinburgh side's keeper.  However, Thistle's pressure was eventually rewarded when a freekick was launched deep into the Fernieside box.  The keeper spilled the ball, for Blackwood to pounce and poke home.

Another melee in the Thistle box resulted in the ball being bundled forward for a Fernieside substitute, despite good possession from the Linlithgow side.  A few minutes later, G Deans was replaced by older brother A Deans, after suffering an injury in a tough challenge.  Just moments later, A Deans had the opportunity to draw the teams equal.  Unfortunately his effort was blasted over the bar from 8 yards.

Maxwell, continually busy throughout the game, was soon after bundled by the keeper.  Despite calls for a red card, the keeper was lucky to receive only a caution.  The resultant penalty by Lacki was launched over the bar.

Maxwell was then presented with another chance - which he slammed home, after quick thinking, from 12 yards.

With their tails up and on the ascendancy, the Linlithgow side pressed for the winner.  However, they were hit with the sucker punch.  A high defensive line was capitalised upon by the Fernieside attacker, who appeared yards offside.  After rounding Whitelaw, the ball was despatched into the net.

With many changes to personnel and positions, the commitment and desire was never in question by Thistle.  However, the number of chances that went begging will disappoint everyone at the club particularly where there was an opportunity to top the league after their dismal start to the season.

Newburgh Juveniles 2 v 0 Linlithgow Thistle

16th October 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Powrie Park, Abernethy

Thistle's Scottish Cup campaign came to a disappointing end in Abernethy.

Despite early dominance that saw G Deans strike the bar and O'Neill smash the bar with a header, the Linlithgow side delivered little creation in the first period.  The defensive formation was rarely troubled but the management team saw weakness in the Fife team, demanding more offensive play in the second forty-five.  Changing personnel and formation at the break, Thistle restarted with the undoubted quest of striking the first goal.  However, it was the Linlithgow side that capitulated.

An innocuous corner after 5 minutes of the whistle seemed to sail over Whitelaw and the Thistle defence.  The goal consequently raised the tempo of Newburgh's game.

Following heavy Juvenile possession, a smart move was clinically finished with a smashing effort after 65 minutes.

Some good play was witnessed by the travelling Linlithgow support as Thistle's formation became even more attacking.  Unfortunately it became apparent that it was not going to be Thistle's day.  The Newburgh goalkeeper was rarely troubled despite some good interplay.

The Fife Premier League side deserved their victory.  The real hope is that this defeat will not interrupt Thistle's recent excellent League form.

Sandy's 0 v 1 Linlithgow Thistle

9th October 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Castle View Centre, Edinburgh

Thistle travelled to the capital and despite enforced changes to the formation and player positions due to suspensions and injuries, came home with maximum points and a clean sheet.  Each and every player acquitted themselves in a marvellous display of counter attacking football, dominance in tackling and possession.

Sandy's started the game brightly and tested Vaughan several times.  The post came to Thistle's rescue after a surging run from Sandy's midfielder.  However, whenever Sandy's pressed forward, Thistle displayed some fine counter attacking.  The Linlithgow side bagged what proved to be the decisive goal halfway through the second half.  Neat interplay with K Morrison and Maxwell was finished superbly by G Deans.  Feigning his shot to the keeper's far post, the midfielder fired into the near corner of the net, sending the keeper in the opposite direction from 10 yards.  A superb goal which saw the Thistle bench erupt.

A solid display from Thistle's backline provided an impenetrable defence throughout this fixture.  Despite several attempts, the Lithgy boys sapped up whatever Sandy's threw at them.  As opposed to simply clearing the ball, Thistle's defence and midfield continually fed the channels to mount yet another counter attack.

This game was an excellent spectacle for amateur football, with the result reinforcing Linlithgow Thistle's recent reinvigoration.

With Sandy's adamant of a Championship winning season, Thistle will need to perform as per their last two league games if they are to mount any form of challenge against the early pace setters.

North Merchiston Vale 2 v 1 Linlithgow Thistle

2nd October 2010, Kick Off - 1pm

Gorgie, Edinburgh

Linlithgow Thistle used this fixture as an opportunity to field the majority of their squad, with practically two different Thistle teams playing in each half.  A disappointing performance was witnessed by all, with Thistle failing to make any impression against the lower league opposition.  A goal scored in each half by Vale, with only an Oliver header from a superb Hughes corner in reply, will worry Thistle's management, with a tough fixture against Sandy's next Saturday.  Thistle will be hoping that this disruption will have little impact on their recent impressive league form.

Linlithgow Thistle 5 v 2 Tynecastle Star

25th September 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettilstoun Mains

Linlithgow Thistle continued their recent impressive form in this home fixture against Tynecastle Star.  Dominating from the first whistle to the last, Thistle displayed smart possession, slick passing, clinical shooting and commanding tackling.

After 12 minutes of constant pressure, Star's defence yielded when Meikle and Stevenson combined well down the right channel, with the latter playing a clever ball into the box for G Deans to clinically despatch into the net.

After 25 mins, Maxwell, who had an impressive game with his speed and trickery, cut the ball from the bye-line for Stevenson to coolly finish.  A few minutes later, Maxwell bagged his first for the day, after a long kick-out from Whitelaw flew over Star's high defensive line, for the forward to career down the right wing and send a smashing shot beyond the keeper's near post.

Just prior to half-time, Tynecastle re-arranged their formation which produced some pressure on Thistle's backline but the Linlithgow side remained strong for the whistle.

From the restart, Thistle reasserted themself on the game.  However a rash challenge on the edge of the box produced a free-kick for Star.  With what appeared to be a tame effort, the ball squeezed underneath Whitelaw.

Against the run of play, Thistle broke down the left channel, with Maxwell again breaching the high defensive line.  A great run was finished when Maxwell squared to Oliver, who slotted beyond the keeper.

Star bagged an impressive second with around 17 minutes remaining, after a poor Thistle throw-in.  The ball broke to the edge of the box, where the Star striker finished into the top corner.

Thistle eventually wrapped up the game when Maxwell smashed the net with another cracking effort.  The management will be satisfied with the inter-play between Maxwell and Stevenson throughout this match.

Maxwell had the opportunity to net his hat-trick after being awarded a penalty.  Once played into the box after a fine dink from A Deans, Maxwell curled the ball beyond the keeper, only to see the defender palm it away.  Following the inevitable red card, Maxwell stepped up to strike the ball.  Slipping on his run-up to his first attempt, he was evidently embarrassed and failed to regain composure as he eventually struck the ball.  The keeper made an easy block that saw the ball break to the on rushing players.  Perhaps still laughing at Maxwell's misfortune, Oliver lashed his effort over the bar.

The keeper's kick out then produced a flashpoint when Meikle and Star's forward clashed.  With Meikle seeing red after a second bookable offence, the players came together in a small melee.  After the situation calmed, the game was seen out by a strong Thistle display.

Linlithgow Thistle 1 v 0 Broughton

11th September 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Kettilstoun Mains

Linlithgow Thistle finally gelled and raised their performance against table toppers, Broughton to record their first victory of the season.  With a game bursting with entertainment, including a creative goal, two red cards and bruising challenges, Thistle took an early charge on their opponents and never yielded.  This was the performance on which the Linlithgow side must build if they are to atone for their recent poor form.

From the first whistle to the final, Thistle players harried and pressed the Edinburgh side.  After 30 mins of the first half, Thistle were awarded a freekick just inside their own half.  A superb quick decision by O'Neill to play the ball over the defence, was equalled with a spectacular finish into the top corner by Miller.

The Linlithgow side continued to press through Stevenson, Maxwell, McLean and Miller.  With seconds of the half remaining, a Broughton corner was expertly cleared by Meikle.  Morrison danced his way to the other box and played an impressive one-two with Maxwell, only to see the ball bobble with the 'keeper to beat.  The ball was sent agonisingly wide of the target.

Thistle again had the ball in the net just after half time when Trialist played another freekick into the box.  Oliver rose with the goalkeeper and headed the ball towards the line.  The referee blew for the inoccuous aerial challenge just as Stevenson blasted the ball home.

Half-way through the half, Oliver was shown a red card for a second bookable offence which was deemed harsh by players and supporters.  Broughton failed to take advantage of their extra player, with Thistle continuing to press.  Maxwell then struck the inside of the post after fine link up play with Morrison.

With around 15 minutes to go, Trialist was dismissed for retaliation.  The Brougton winger appeared to kickout in frustration, which went unpunished, as Trialist ushered the ball over the sideline.

However, the solid backline of Meikle, Manderson and Lacki was impenetrable, along with the often brave Whitelaw in goal, who was subjected to some harsh challenges throughout the match and particularly during the final minutes.

The management team will be looking to have this standard of performance replicated after the September weekend holiday and may well set a friendly fixture for next weekend to embed this winning mentality and confidence within the squad.  With a number of first team players still absent through injury and suspension, this result proves that the Thistle cause is still alive and kicking.

4th September 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Thistle travelled to the capital to take on last season's Lothian East champions.  Despite starting the game in commanding form, a defensive error by Thistle was clinically capitalised upon by Vics.  A second was conceded just prior to half-time.  However, belief was still strong within the Linlithgow ranks and a rousing team-talk seemed to re-ignite some of the passion that has been missing in the past few weeks.  Miller, A. Deans, McLean and Stevenson all had efforts on goal.  Unfortunately Vics proved tricky opponents and were worthy of another brace prior to the full-time whistle.

A number of questionable refereeing decisions throughout this match did not help with Thistle's plight but Vics ran out comfortable and deserved winners.

Sandys 5 v 2 Linlithgow Thistle

(1-1 aet)

28th August 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Castleview Centre

Thistle's torrid season continued with a disappointing result and poor performance against Edinburgh side, Sandys.  With many notable absentees from the starting line up through injury and suspension, Thistle went behind after 15 mins.  The Linlithgow side then failed to motivate themselves until the last 10 minutes of the cup tie.  With 3 minutes of the tie remaining, Oliver's sublime pass split the Sandy's defence and the on-rushing Morrison rounded the keeper and then finished with aplomb.  With the final seconds ticking away, Miller had the opportunity to claim victory.

Going into extra-time, Sandy's capitalised on a defensive mistake.  With Thistle then trying to battle back into the game, the defence was left exposed and the Edinburgh side managed to put the tie out of reach of Thistle.  A consolation was bagged by Stevenson.

Thistle return to league duty on Saturday against last season's  Lothian East Champions, Edinburg South Vics, who have started well this campaign.  The Management team will be hoping for inspiration this week at training and have called on all squad members to attend, irrespective of suspensions and injuries.

Thistle continued their dismal start to the season with a defeat to Lothian West side Whitburn.  Entering half time with a goal advantage, after a cracking header by Miller from a long Oliver throw, and dominating the first 45 minutes, Linlithgow failed to further capitalise on numerous chances.

The old adage of "a game of two halves" was never more apt with this contest, with Whitburn taking control of the game and coverting three chances.  Thistle failed to create anything worthy of note in the second half and with injuries again to key personnel must now get back to basics at training this coming week.

RYCE & WHYTE SUFFER NEW INJURY SETBACKS

Inspirational midfielder, Jeff Ryce, has suffered a broken wrist and faces weeks on the sidelines.  Following a nasty fall during the first league game away to Heriot Vale, Ryce battled through the pain barrier both on and off the field, until swelling forced him to hospital.  Confirming two fractures, Ryce is understandably disappointed to be watching Thistle's poor start to the season alongside the coaches and substitutes.

During the Bridgend game, the experienced Mark Whyte went over on his right ankle and has seen bruising spread across the foot.  The dogged forward will be missing from action for a few weeks.

All at Linlithgow Thistle wish Jeff and Mark a speedy recovery.

Linlithgow Thistle 0 v 2 Bridgend United

18th August 2010, Kick Off - 6.30pm

Bo'ness Academy

Thistle failed to stamp any form of authority during this derby match that saw the Linlithgow side reduced to 9 men.  With discipline an anticipated problem during this fixture, it was Bridgend that dominated proceedings and deservedly triumphed over their fierce rivals.

Thistle failed to create any clear chances despite their initial positive 4-3-3 formation.  The management team must now be concerned that with 180mins of football having elapsed, no goals have been scored.  This is a complete contrast to last season's free-scoring.

United wrapped up victory with goals from substitute Thompson's first touch on 65 mins and Brown's cool finish with around 8 minutes remaining.

Thistle have a well-timed break from league duty when they entertain Whitburn Ams in the Centenary Cup.  However, with the West Lothian side enjoying a positive start to their Lothian West campaign, Linlithgow will be facing a stern test.

Thistle host local rivals Bridgend at Bo'ness Academy in the second game of the season.  Hoping to acquire their first points of season whilst competing in this fiesty derby will prove a stern test for the Linlithgow side.

Heriot Vale 1 v 0 Linlithgow Thistle

14th August 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Gyle, Edinburgh

Thistle started their Premier 2 challenge with a defeat away to Heriot Vale.  The Linlithgow side commanded much of the game but failed to capitalise on a number of gilt-edged chances.  With a freak wonder goal separating the sides from just before half-time, Thistle could not find the back of the net.

With rivals Bridgend at home on Wednesday in what will prove to be a fiery match, Thistle will have to take the opportunities as and when they come along, otherwise life in the challenging Premier 2 Division may prove to be very difficult indeed.

 Next Fixture: Premier 2

Heriot Vale v Linlithgow Thistle

14th August 2010, Kick Off - 2pm

Gyle, Edinburgh

Thistle kick off the new season with a tough away fixture at Heriot Vale.  With many of the Premier 2 teams an unknown quantity, the Linlithgow side will have to start each match in the right frame of mind if they seek to replicate the fortunes of the preceding 2 seasons.
